Re: WLW translator

In my location re: WDTK, my experience is different than yours, Colonel. After dark, AM 1400 is completely useless in the house or in the car. During the daytime, AM 1400 is a tough catch indoors due to unwanted AM band noise. 101.5 MHz comes in crystal clear for me 24/7, including indoors. I've ne...

Re: WLW translator

The WLW translator actually translates WKFS HD2 Milford, OH. Translators, in my listening experience, are nearly useless unless you are stationary. I enjoy the John McCullough Show on WDTK. Try listening to 101.5 while driving sometime. With Cincinnati's hilly terrain, the WLW translator is even mor...

I couldn't agree more. Take this crapola over to the Pol-Pot forum, for godsakes. If that pirate station was there once, it will be there again. That's a pretty safe bet.

Sima may not have anything to do with WOAP, but he's carrying some pretty heavy "paper" on it.

Has 1090 ever had a successful, profitable format?
Yes. It was definitely a moneymaker when Walter Wolpin owned it. It had a "block programming" format, and even at night, there were few open time slots.

Re: Alt 106.7 - 6 months in

I think we are forgetting 96.3's attempt at "Alternative Classics" during the post Planet era, when Garrett Michaels was PD. It burned out quickly. I believe he tried the same formula in Seattle.

Listening to Darryl today ,he said John was in the building, so he must be doing fairly well. Hopefully that means he'll be back soon.
That's the best news I've heard today. I didn't get a chance to listen earlier. Thanks.

Re: Worried about John McCullough

Back in April (or maybe late March?) John told listeners he would be taking some time off to have a medical procedure done that was long overdue. Sean Baligian filled in first, and was replaced by Darryl. About 3 weeks into the leave, Darryl had John on-air via phone. John sounded good, but tired. H...

Re: 98.7 WDZH scraps morning show - format change ahead?

It's tough for out of market talent with no prior track record in Detroit (in any daypart) to succeed in morning drive here. In the past twenty years, I can think of two examples of true newcomers who succeeded in mornings here: - Mojo (WKQI) - Blaine Fowler (WDVD) In Mojo's case, he was paired wit...

Worried about John McCullough

John McCullough's "short leave" from WDTK seems to be dragging on and on. Darryl Wood, who is filling in, had John on the show about 3 weeks ago via phone. John sounded tired, but in good spirits, and very anxious to get back to work. Is John doing okay? Has there been some setback?

Re: WRQN badly needs a competitor

I agree in part. Yes, the true, prepackaged "Jack-FM" format would work in Toledo. Anything similarly slapped together by Cumulus would be poorly executed, and not as good. Tom Petty and Bryan Adams would be heard at least once an hour.

Re: 102.7 WPZR to EMF (K-Love)

Anyone employed at Praise 102.7 should be seeking new employment elsewhere immediately. Three lousy translators, on two different frequencies, do not a "network" make. WPZR currently runs national programs weekdays in morning drive, afternoon drive, and evenings. The only local hosts appear to be R...

Re: Tom Joyner returns to 105.9 Kiss

I am afraid the “Soul” format is gone for good. On a weekday afternoon last week, I listened for several hours straight and did not hear even one commercial (except for the live read one that came with the traffic report). Advertisers don’t want older listeners. I bet too many older listeners are a...

Re: Tom Joyner returns to 105.9 Kiss

I doubt that anyone was out on the streets trying to sell spots on Soul 99.9. Hell, the last time there was any significant amount of local businesses on 99.9, Angelo Henderson was there! When Cliff Russell was shown the door, almost ALL of the paid programming disappeared, only to reappear on AM 91...

You cannot use a translator to expand your "city grade" signal beyond it's limits. 106.5 is what it is, where it is.

Re: 106.5 Toledo to be sold

There is a 730 in Lansing that must be protected as well, though that isn’t as much of a factor as the old CHYR 730 East Lansing isn't a factor at all, as both of them came on air around the same time, fall 1964, as I recall. 730 is a Mexican 1A Clear. WJYM (formerly WMGS) goes southeast at night w...
