1520 Ypsilanti was originally WYNZ, and was originally Country Gospel as I recall. It was owned by Harold Munn, Sr. WYSI 1480, immediately adjacent both in frequency and transmitter sites, was Country as I recall.

Re: another WPON update
The thing that throws the elevation pattern off for WMBD is the taller tower. It was used for WMBD-FM and or WMBD-TV.

Re: Travel Back In Time To Buy A Good TV Antenna
I was about to post a reply also when the message board disappeared. When the article I read was published long ago, WJFM was still 500000 watts. It also alluded to all the "stars" having to be in alignment and proper rotation for this to work.

Re: another WPON update
At slightly <5.5 mV/m NIF, it's at the level of most former III-Bs under the new model. WMBD is slightly <2.7, it's at the level of most III-As under the new model. There is a null from WMBD to WFNT in the horizontal, but it becomes shallower at the slant angle. Probably protected CHOW Welland, ON o...

Re: another WPON update
You forgot WFNT. Have to maintain or reduce groundwave overlap. Low NIF. It was only 30 miles from Square Lake and Telegraph. Really packed them in then. 1470 was first licensed in 1947 as WWOK. Relicensed in 1953 as WKMF. WPON and WOHO were in 1954-1955.

Re: WCBS QRM
My guess is 50 kW KRVN Lexington, NE. It has been frequently on nondirectional STA as I recall over the years.
Another guess is 10 kW-D WMEQ Menomonee, WI on Day facilities.

Re: another WPON update
I think they no longer have to put an NIF contour over Walled Lake, so they can be Class B as before. Too bad they couldn't have had that rule before all those other stations had to change Community of License.
I'm 30 miles away and it barely comes in with 250 watts nondirectional.

WLAV Tower Relocation - new update 7/29
This was a huqe topic, so let's keep it going. The last post was about the other tower near the WNWZ site, which has the WGRD-FM auxiliary, which is 1.7 kW at 120 meters HAAT and for a short while had the main WGRD-FM licensed facility. That area is about 6 miles closer to WWDV, which is too far fro...

Re: Rimshots
Part of WKQZ's good signal is that it starts out in an area of flat terrain. Then the terrain goes uphill toward West Branch, Houghton Lake, and Cadillac. Unless you are in a terrain hole, you hear it until you start going downhill or until you are well beyond the horizon and there is an earth curva...

Re: USA #17
Took me 20 minutes to find Marina City in that picture, then just the tip of one tower. The once mighty 316 kW WLS-TV with the iconic lighted animated Circle 7 used to be on one along with the mighty WFLD 32 on another. Those signals wouldn't make it out of Chicago after being bounced around between...

Re: Rimshots
If WIOG was any more south It would likely interfere with the contour of 102.7 Well, if you looked at Longley Rice, the ridge extending from Brighton to Almont above 1000 feet AMSL would probably shield both from each other. But with IBOC on, WPZR at 50 kW DA/500 feet HAAT interferes a lot more to ...

Re: Rimshots
Regarding WCEN, they benefitted greatly from Section 73.213 toward the WCSX first adjacent and WTNR cochannel facilities. WKQZ is just barely fully spaced under Section 73.207 to WDRQ. It resulted from Docket 80-90 separations to move from a Class A on 93.5 to a Class C2 on 93.3. WHNN (to WDVD and W...

Re: Rimshots
Blame the FCC for changing the rules all the time. Originally it was a contour and interference based allotment system on FM like on AM and NCE-FM. Then they came up with the distance separation requirements in the early 1960s. There were so many stations that were in the Detroit area, and twelve of...

Re: CMU Sells Flint WCMZ-TV In FCC Spectrum Auction
I suggest that you look at a Longley Rice prediction of the signals you mention. With this misinformation and long obsolete models still used to predict signals, OTA TV is dead. 19, 23, and 56 DO NOT cover Genesee County well at all OTA. With analog, they were snowy. With DTV they don't come in at a...
