Re: WRDT Files For 107.1

The FCC should have changed the rules decades ago to like Canada has. Only hope now would be an expanded band. Class As are protected to the 60 dBu. Oxes are being gored all over the country. Only when someone's favorite is involved do people get upset. Stations are equal. No station gets special tr...

Re: Real air talent

I'm trying to remember where I got that survey. I was in the Old Orchard Shopping Area earlier that Summer, but I think they shipped a bunch of WEFM surveys to Believe In Music in Western Michigan, when the format first changed to Top 40 more or less, and that is where I got it.

Remember Chris Edmonds on WEFM?

I think this is the survey I sent in to ARSA.

Re: the end has come to WCHB AM1200

WEXL is nondirectional and full efficiency at Night. Days it goes toward Detroit. As a Class IV/Class C, the NIF is normally in the 20-25 mV/m range. Class IVs never were full market coverage signals except smaller markets. Even in a city of 45 square miles, like 1230 and 1340 in Grand Rapids, the N...

Re: the end has come to WCHB AM1200

Why does anyone think a 250 watt translator, even at near 1000 feet HAAT, often duplicated cochannel by full power Canadian and US stations 25-50 miles away, can cover the market? What has been needed for 30+ years or more is an expanded FM band. Should have done what Canada did instead of putting s...

More information on this and attempts to bring it back. I remember G-Force 1330 WKTA Evanston coming in during CH in Michigan, especially when WTRX was silent in the early 1990s.

Re: 14 Year Old Electrocuted When Cell Phone Falls In Bathtubt

This risk could also be eliminated with a small rechargeable Lithium battery unit/Car Starter like a Halo Bolt or similar devices. In my experience, it is much more useful as a USB power device, as it won't start a completely dead, old car battery, only a newer one run down by lights or the car radi...

Re: Neat 1987 Article about the death of Chicago's Z-rock

As I recall, Vernon Merritt, Jr. owned WZRC at the time. Vern Merritt, known in Michigan primarily as the cofounder of WDZZ, passed away in 2015.

14 Year Old Electrocuted When Cell Phone Falls In Bathtub

Different theories on this. Some say this could only have happened if there was an extension cord to the charger, even if plugged into a ground fault interrupter. This type of thing only used to happen when old plugged in radios, especially tube radios, fell into the bathtub. http://www.statesman.co...

Re: I hate Mitch Albom

I worked with Mitch twice over the years. While we may not agree on some issues, I have never found Mitch to be anything less than a nice guy. As far as I know, he still lives not too far from me. We would occasionally run into him at Hogan's on Telegraph, when they were still around. His only "sec...

Re: I hate Mitch Albom

Mitch Albom has a Detroit centric and jet setter type ignorance of geography. Has he ever looked at a map? While he lived in South Oakland County, and may still reside except for possibly another residence within Detroit for appearance sake, he made fun of a Detroit sports figure who dined in Holly....

Re: FM Boosters To Deal With New Interference Issues

Some people here are unfamiliar with FM Boosters. First of all, they are on the same channel as the main transmitter. For that reason, the station has a lot more control over obtaining them and their use. They can be fed audio programming by any means necessary. They can be up to 20% of the ERP of t...

FM Boosters To Deal With New Interference Issues

All of the full power FM stations with transmitters in Genesee County are now experiencing interference from cochannel translators, new Canadian stations, and first adjacent IBOC sidebands in areas that used to receive clear signals from them. Since there is apparently no restriction on the number o...

Re: AM skywave reception almost non-existent tonight

My experience is that the groundwave is not stronger with the Aurora, but the interference is zero to much less than average. The one time I predicted a visible Aurora, over the course of a 6 hour trip, there was an Auroral wipe out followed by recovery about four times. 1500+ kHz (WLAC, WWKB, WCKY,...

Re: WFDF, WJR Reach 95th Birthday

News to me, I stopped listening to JR after JP passed. J. JP did a great Focus interview of Bud Guest and Charlie Park, Sr. in 1982 for their 60th, and it was repeated in 1992 on their 70th. I don't recall much mention after that year. You are correct, much of the respect for the History of WJR lef...

iPhone Battery Claims

The technicians at the Apple Store claim that charging iPhone batteries in a 5 V 2 Amp USB receptacle instead of a 5 V 1 Amp USB receptacle will shorten battery life. Do you think that is true? If you are in a hurry to recharge (and who isn't usually?), will it be significant if you do this occasion...

WFDF, WJR Reach 95th Birthday

No one seems to talk about radio station History anymore, but WFDF and WJR are reaching their 95th Birthday. WJR's History traces back to Pontiac and Sylvan Lake, and WFDF began in Flint, and both were first licensed as commercial radio stations in May, 1922. WFDF's History as an experimental statio...
