I find the same is true if you don't push any buttons. Some people still have rotary phones.

Re: 97.5 Now FM kicks i92.9's ass by EIGHT FULL SHARES!!!

Traditionally, lower-powered stations like Class A FM's tend to fare better with niche formats. Find something that sells and isn't being done elsewhere in the market, and run with that. The challenge of going head-to-head with a Class B or C isn't necessarily the overall footprint but the ability o...

Re: Automated Phone Answering

"Thanks for calling - - - - - . Please listen carefully, as our menu options have recently changed." Why do they always say that? The menu never changes. The menu hasn't changed. They say that to increase the chance that you'll select a menu option rather than just pressing "0" for a live human. Yo...

Re: 97.5 Now FM kicks i92.9's ass by EIGHT FULL SHARES!!!

I never doubted that i92.9 was positioned as a spoiler station, perhaps to shave a point or two off of WFMK or Now FM for the benefit of Q106. They simply don't have the signal to go head-to-head with 97.5. Since ownership clusters have been prevalent in the industry, radio is played more like a gam...

Re: Old Telephone numbers

Lansing's 48 prefix was IVanhoe. I was a little tyke, but I definitely remember the alpha-numeric combos being published in the 1970 Michigan Bell Telephone Directory.

Re: This is the Last Straw

Did I miss something in the story? I didn't see any suggestion about banning plastic straws. I may be telling my age now, but I remember paper, flex straws. Not in the aforementioned story, but there is a push for it: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/the-conversation/sd-cities-in-califor...

Internet privacy is an oxymoron (obligatory smart-ass remark). :razz That being said, there are many end-user VPN's out there for affordable prices. There are some free options as well although most of the freebies are ad-supported with slow connectivity, limited gateways and questionable privacy po...

Re: This is the Last Straw

The problem is the lack of discussion. I'm all for exploring alternatives and solutions to potential problems, but we're living in a society where the trend is to act first and think later. Issues like this seem to pop up out of nowhere and people jump on the bandwagon to take immediate action witho...

Re: What's on WOAP right now?

I did some work for Tony in the Big 1080 days so I may be a bit biased, but the current incarnation of WOAP just isn't my cup of tea. A good deal of the music I don't recognize, and it just doesn't seem focused. It's also hard to get that "local" feel whenever I listen. Maybe I've been spoiled by WI...

Re: This is the Last Straw

We just wash and re-use the plastic straws at our house, and believe me, we've got quite a collection! Same with cups and lids. I can't remember the last time we actually spent money on straws. I guess you say it's environmentally conscious, but I just call it fiscal responsibility. I was raised to ...

Re: This is the Last Straw

when I was a young lad straws were made out of some sort of wax coated paper I think....they sure were not plastic. Why not just rollback to the good old days? I remember the paper straws. Think you can still get those in stores. Wouldn't matter to me as long as it holds together. I also remember b...

Re: Sad news coming out of Jackson (K-105.3)

Mini-strokes are very difficult to detect as they often don't produce noticeable after-effects. The person may experience a dizzy spell or momentary disorientation and then feel perfectly fine. Sometimes the bigger problem isn't evident until a massive stroke occurs. This is indeed a sad story! My p...

Re: NewsOn

I don't care for the update. The old app had a "live now" feature that allowed you to see every station that had a current live stream running. Looks like they've dropped that in this new incarnation.

Re: WTGG AM

Same story I heard. Spring Arbor University applied for WTGG when they initially put 1540 on the air. Whoever processed the paperwork at the FCC got MI confused with MO and thought it was Spring Arbor's error, so they assigned the "K" instead. Turns out it was their goof, but by that time the paperw...

Most people don't bother to read credit contracts before signing them. Tell me more...how often do you think you lose 4G? Does it tend to happen in the same locations? Same day or time of day? How much of SE Michigan do you travel? We are on Verizon, my wife and I and one of her adult daughters. I am thinking the daughter needs to roll on her own. She is engaged and m...
