Re: List Of Airports Requiring 5G Buffer Zone

The graph I saw on TV basically showed that NONE of these services had any kind of a decent FILTER to keep their signal in their own band, since 5G is the last to the party, they should be forced to have a narrow cavity filter to keep their signal the hell out of the aircraft altimeters. Likewise, s...

Re: Another Radio

I think I'm going to have to make a new treatment center: The Betty Marconi Clinic, where most of us need to go to reduce our insatiable radio appetites! Naw, the XYL might bitch about us havingradios all-over hell's half acre, but hey at least they know where we're at, we're not getting into troubl...

Re: FCC Urged To Allow Technical Change That Would Improve FM’s Digital Coverage.

Nothing to see here...Leonard "Lawsuit" Kahn had his "Powerside" that took his ISB AM Stereo system and dumped most of it into one sideband, which did work on analog radios, but digital, I would think not so much? It's a shame Leonard had to be such a litigating arse, as AM radio could have made a p...

Re: Downriver AM transmitters

Not quite downriver, but made a trip up in the dark last week to Twelve Oaks Mall, and like a moth, was attracted to the slowly flashing 320 Watt red beacons of an antenna array behind the mall. What station(s) utilize the towers visible from the mall in Novi?

Re: Put up a 5 ele FM beam feeding a Sony XDR-F1HD

So about $100-$200 to get an FM Yagi. Question, still horizontal polarization best since most stations are circular? I recall some old tyme stations having 50KW Horizontal and 30KW Vertical? STill the case?

Re: Put up a 5 ele FM beam feeding a Sony XDR-F1HD

Why couldn't Sony release a quality radio (with mods) like the XDR-F1HD for general distribution? And then tweak the AM section with Noise Blankers and CQUAM stereo and, provided the radio didn't melt down from heat, they could be selling these to people who actually care about radio, so why not mak...

Re: Predictions for 2022

Back when WTVG was ABC O&O and had the Disney bucks, I would have bet them on ATSC 3.0 as they were first with HD news back then, but now all the TV stations are on the cheap, and since WGTE-FM never even bothered to jump onto the HD-radio (HD-2 could have been classical music or NPR news all damn d...

Re: 105.5fm Toledo Ohio

Yep, the HD2 on 105.5 and 94.5 both sound like crud, and the "zone" audio had no audio processing whatsoever that I can tell. It's the equivalent of connecting the headphone jack of a cassette player directly into the HD2 input, and not lound enough at that. Why doesn't Cumulus ever spend $25 on a d...

Re: Bill Stewart dies

Bill had an enjoyable mid-day and PM drive show on WSPD in 1983 when ratings were decent. Actually put time and preperation into his shifts. What's surprising is that "Bill" was quite an athelete and runner, yet still expired from Covid, so Covid doesn't discriminate among healthy people either. Too...

Re: Ken Jennings as Jeopardy! Host

Hey, the tag-team works for me. Still wish they could have had Norm McDonald guest host one show before his passing, or have Will Farrell, but I'm sure many Jeopardy! viewers would not be amused with either, or SNL (Daryll Hammond) doing his Sean Connery impression for one show on April Fool's day!

Re: Local news outlets' tardy reporting re: the Crumbleys yesterday

Agree to disagree on use of EAS. They use it for Amber Alerts, (which you CAN opt out of on your POS cellphone), but no reason radio can't run BOLO for 2 fugitives in the region affected (Wayne Oakland, McComb) (yeah, I know WOMC) and put it on the highsign signboards where they list missing persons?
