Last broadcast on WGN-TV tonight for Skilling, who went from young weather geek in the 80s to dean of Chicago meteorologists. Plenty of tributes to him on WGN's website.
Thank goodness I can still watch WGN via IPTV.

Re: Global Sarnia-Oil Springs

TVO via the Windsor repeater was on cable in the Royal Oak and Troy headins. I am not sure if it still is. I am also not sure if they still carry WCMZ after the shutdown (probably do). Nope and nope. WCMU programming was removed the instant TV 28 left the airwaves. TVO has not been carried on any c...

Re: Global Sarnia-Oil Springs

I think Candy Candy had an English dub from ZIV International that ended up direct to video (or in syndication) in the U.S. ZIV also dubbed the '70s Nippon Animation Little Lulu series, which also aired on TVO, at least in French (maybe in English too). Seem like Canada gave these shows a chance wh...

Re: Now, this is weird! (involves 91.3 WGTE)

WGTE should be licensed to Sylvania, OH. Old-timers will understand this reference. Did GTE (the phone company) and Sylvania (the electronics corporation) used to be related to one another? [...] Sylvania made some darn good TVs in the 80s. IIRC WGTE was callsign-speak for "Greater Toledo Education...

Re: Now, this is weird! (involves 91.3 WGTE)

I received a mailer from channel 56 once asking for money, despite never donating to them. Haven’t received anything from WGTE despite living much closer to Toledo than MW. Before my mom died, she accidentally pledged to WTVS while in a hospital in Michigan. We were on Detroit PTV's list for a coup...

Re: Global Sarnia-Oil Springs

One of the neat things about getting to watch TVO and CBC French, for me, was all the anime they used to show that you couldn't see on the American networks. TVO had Alice in Wonderland, Tales of Magic and (during their Sunday French programming) Maeterlinck's Blue Bird (L'Oiseau Bleu); SRC had Ali...

Re: Global Sarnia-Oil Springs

Global (digital 35, virtual 29) was always an easy catch for me with indoor or aerial. It’s been MIA for the past week or so. Off the air, reduced power, killed by network or CRTC? Waaaay back in early 90’s , from a third floor apartment, one could get Global TV from Ontario and they had maple leaf...

Re: WBTL Ch 5 Toledo

I recall around 1990, the station ID'd itself as "W05BZ Toledo" on screen and the channel was called "The Jukebox Network" originally.

Later in '91 or so, channel 48 had it as "The Box".

Re: WTVG 75th Anniversary special

I'm wondering if they didn't talk nearly as much as the WSPD era because many of the people from that area are no longer around. I'm sure they didn't. That era is long dead as I see it. Sad really. :( My mom used to appear on several WSPD shows in the 50's she used to tell me about, both TV and rad...

Re: RIP Gordon Ward

https://www.13abc.com/2022/02/23/local-broadcasting-legend-gordon-ward-dies-96/ Retired before my time in Toledo, I mostly knew him from commercials for Cap Averill III And Associates airing on the TV Guide Channel, but he had a damn good run at both 11 and 13. Certainly a local legend. [youtube]ht...

Re: WNWO (NBC) Toledo granted FCC license for new 275 kW DTV transmitter.

Speaking of WNWO, I noticed they replaced Stadium with Charge! on one of its subchannels. Not a total loss I thought (Stadium is offered on several streaming platforms). When did that happen? Must've been a few days ago. Buckeye Broadband already has the new logo up and such. Would rather have "Ant...

Re: Antenna TV gone?

TeddyBear, what's the scoop with Pluto TV? Free (other than paying for video data) for shows with a ton of commercials? No current big 4 networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox) I assume? It's CBS owned. They run spots. You see Late Big 4 shows, late cable shows and allot of reuns. Pluto almost resembles a re...

Re: Antenna TV gone?

WMYD-TV 20 Detroit and it's subchannels are only available on Buckeye Broadband on the Michigan side of the border, namely Bedford township. Yep, Bedford Township is practically the furthest Buckeye can offer the Detroit channels these days (and I'm about a half mile from the state line). Just curi...

Re: Toledo Riot/Looting

Apparently, Mayor Wade didn't get the word out about the Toledo curfew- question is: will any of the Toledo news media get any coverage of the Target store looting on Alexis Road? I'm confused. No protests there that I'm aware of. Why Target? Probably because that was the store they looted in Minne...
