Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?

Heard from Spring Lake MI: AM--KNX-1070, KFI-640, both Los Angeles (KFI was a pest before Zeeland-640 came on the air); CFUN-1410 Vancouver BC in the 70s FM--Some Denver FMs on a super-Eskip back in the 1980s, heard on a Radio Shack "boombox" TV--CKCK-2 Regina SK in the late 1970s on a TV with "Rabb...

Re: Beautiful music stations

Wasn't WQWQ programming on the now-defunct AM 1520 for a time? I think that was after 101.7 had flipped to WMRR. (If I remember correctly, 101.7 also had a very short dalliance with AC as WQFN "Fun 101.7" around 1990 or so, but actually switched back to easy listening.) This was symptomatic of that...

Re: Public Reality on 90.1

Remember this WPRR group of stations and translators is part of Bob Goodrich's broadcasting empire (such as it is). Goodrich has always had a "engineering, what's that" attitude with his stations. Clear Channel (now IHeart Media) had to practically rebuild the Muskegon cluster once that was acquired...

Re: WIOG at 86,000 watts

Aren't the grandfathered Zone I super-powered stations (such as WBCT-93.7 or WSRW-105.7) protected only to the 54 dBU contour they would have if they were operating at 50 kW at 150 meters? WBCT seems to really have that problem, with Class A stations eroding its coverage from near Flint and near Cad...

Re: WLAV-FM has filed to change its main tower site to WFUR-FM's site!

WFUR-FM has been operating at reduced power for several days now.

I wonder if this is because work is being done on their tower to prep it for the move of WLAV?

Is anyone is in the position to swing by the WFUR tower site and see if anything is going on?

Re: WLAV-FM has filed to change its main tower site to WFUR-FM's site!

Well, WLAV is now operating with their "temporary" facilities. They were wiped out completely by "The Drive" from Chicago ( 96.9 Zion) yesterday evening. WLAV has gone from a great signal here at the Lakeshore to a totally crap signal, the worst Grand Rapids signal on my FM radio. Sure hope this sit...

Re: 93.1 Grand Haven switches from Country to Classic Rock.

The 93.1 format change was only one of a duo of changes at WGHN, Inc. 1370/94.9 has also changed. It is no longer sports talk, but oldies. The slogan is "Oldies 94.9". They no longer mention AM 1370 at all. But the signal on 94.9 remains mono, for now. I see the changes as basically WGHN declaring w...

Re: WBBM 780 to diplex with WSCR 670

The Chicago clears as they come in at Grand Haven, MI: WSCR--670: Monster signal. Not many listeners because it's so Chicago-oriented (not too many Bears or Blackhawks fans around here). WGN-720: Great signal, with a fair amount of listeners. WBBM-780: Great signal, has listeners here in spite of Ch...

Re: Alt 101.3 on the way.

My speculation only: If IHeart does indeed switch 101.3 to Alternative, but does not change 96.1, it would leave a big hole in the market for another classic rocker. I wonder if WGRD could then get flipped to classic rock? TSQ is already watering down WGRD's format with that genre, as has been noted...

450 kW from Bonaire

Those of us who DXed back in the 1970s and 80s remember PJB-800, the 500,000 watt flamethrower on 800 kHz which Trans World Radio opeerated. I can remember PJB regularly shredded CLKW at night here in Western Michigan back in the day. It had an almost-local quality signal many nights. PJB retired th...

Re: 102.5 on the air rebroadcasting 91.7 just six miles away!

The audio on this translator is atrocious. It's MONAURAL, and very muddy. Can't see lots of people tuning in this little abortion.

Re: 13 to add another OTA signal...

The stations get money from cable subscribers for these networks. Charter keeps hiking the 'broadcast station fee" charged for OTA broadcast stations, I'm sure the hikes are in relation to the number of these networks carried.

Re: The Absurdity Of The 18-49 Demo

I see some poetic justice in the dissing of the 55+ age group. I spent the greater part of the 1980s at an easy listening station targeted at older listeners. I had to listen to boomers ( who believed that they were eternally hip and relevant) sneer at easy listening, calling it old fart radio, nurs...

Re: AM antenna Puzzler.

It's something called a PARAN antenna. See the following: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/15 ... eload=true Supposed to be used when there are restrictions on height.

fI think they have a good shot at pulling off a successful restructuring.

Cumulus has seemed to be a better managed company since the Dickey clowns left. Mary Berner has been doing a good job.

I suspect the company will come out from Chapter 11 in good shape.

Re: Is 101.3 next?

If Alt 101.3 does indeed happen (and I'd be all for it) it may spell the end of WGRD as we haave known it. As pointed out on this board, WGRD is severely disrespecting its audience, mixing in flatulent classic rock and watering down its sound. I can see WGRD rapidly losing its core to Alt 101.3; and...
