Re: George Lessens retiring

Maybe 13 will do the same with the weather as they have with the sports reports. Just completely ignore it.

Re: Steve Lawrence has died

A great singer/artist from the late 50's-early 60's with big hits like Go Away Little Girl, Pretty Blue Eyes, Footsteps, etc. but his hit making career pretty much came to an end with the British Invasion in 1964. He had a excellent career after that performing in Vegas and other venues, and doing l...

Re: Tornado coverage

George Lessens was on the air continuously with the weather from at least 11pm, when I turned on the TV to catch the news until 1 am. They too did a pretty good job of covering this storm.

Re: General Motors orders stop sales on GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado due to shitty Infotainment OS

I happen to own a GM product and the entertainment package works great in my 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. AM/FM Stereo, what more could you want. Fortunately I special ordered the FM stereo or it would have only come with an AM radio. The AM radio works great, picks up everything. Special ordere...

Re: Tropospheric ducting on Saturday 2/3

I was cruising around the north end of Grand Rapids yesterday listening to Q95 94.7 out of Indianapolis. Not being bothered at all by WKLQ on 94.5 or Jethro FM on 94.9, even though I was within a couple of miles of Jethro's transmitter site. Ya, I know they are only a 250 watt translator, but they u...

Re: Dan Dickerson reveals who'll call Tigers games on radio when he subs on TV

Being a radio guy, I listen to the Tigers on the radio quite a bit. I do have Bally Sports both at home and at our lake house, but when I'm up at the lake I'd rather be outside by the lake listening to the game on the radio. With that being said, I enjoy listening to Dan Dickerson on the Tigers broa...

Heard Soulful Strut by Young Holt Unlimited today being used in a beer commercial, Michelob if my non-existent short termed memory serves me correctly.

Re: Tim Steele dies

I've kind of lost track of Tim Steele the radio/TV guy. He did work in the I.T. department at WOOD-TV for quite a while, but he left there and I don't know where he is working now if at all. May be retired. I also knew of Tim Steele the race car driver. He was quite accomplished on the mid west shor...

Re: Blunder 107.3 ties worst AQH share ever; WGRD expands lead over WLAV

I believe it was 2004 or maybe 2005 when 98.7 went to the oldies format. Robb Stewart was the program director and morning personality. In 2007 the aforementioned Len O'Kelly came back to Grand Rapids from Chicago and was the program director. He hired me to do the mid day shift starting in March of...

Re: Blunder 107.3 ties worst AQH share ever; WGRD expands lead over WLAV

Well, I was working there between 1999-2003, but MW I believe you are right and Len was let go sometime in early 2001. After that it was Jeff Kelly as PD, then Scott Walker came in from Philadelphia. He was supposedly a big time guy, but never really fit in the Grand Rapids market and lasted only 9 ...

Re: Detroit Lions 2023

I'm still a little concerned about the Packers. They have Tampa Bay at home tomorrow. Carolina on the road on the 24th. The Vikings on the road on the 31st, then the Bears at home January 7. All winnable games (of course so was the Giants game). Sweeping those 4 games would give them a 10-7 record. ...

Re: Blunder 107.3 ties worst AQH share ever; WGRD expands lead over WLAV

Actually, the towel was thrown in on WODJ when Citadel let Len O'Kelly go in 2002. After that it was just a bunch of non-descript program directors with little or no effort from management.

Mel Vande Gevel and Jim Francis

I see where former WGRD and WLAV News director Mel Vande Gevel has passed away on December 6th. One I forgot to mention was his good Friend Jim Francis former program director at WGRD and WLAV also recently passed away on October 13th. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mel, but I remember hearing ...

Re: How WMAX-FM 96.1 Ended Up So Close To WLHT 95.7

When 95.7 first went on the air in 1962 (with the call sign of WKLW), I believe they were 7,100 watts. WZZM bought the station in the summer of 1967 and upgraded the signal to 50,000 watts in 1968. At that time their studios were on the 2nd floor of the Sackner Products building in the 900 block of ...
