Re: Beautiful music stations

I believe WQWQ was beautiful music until early 1986. They made a switch to soft AC for a few months to somewhat soften the blow. The call sign was changed to WSNX and flipped to CHR in the early summer of 1986 with J.J. Duling as the original program director.

Re: Beautiful music stations

WOOD-FM 105.7 Grand Rapids was beautiful music for many years before dumping the format for soft AC around 1991. WOOD-FM was the first FM station in the nation to have a #1 12 plus rating in an Arbitron book in the spring of 1970.

Re: 2018 Detroit Lions

I don't think I ever saw a Lions game starting with so much expectation, only to lay an egg like last night's game. Just a piss poor performance that the whole organization should be ashamed of. Until the Ford family finally sells this franchise and they take the WCF off their sleeves, the fans will...

Re: WLAV-FM has filed to change its main tower site to WFUR-FM's site!

LAV-FM turned off their IBOC about 6 years ago when the late John Alan was still their engineer. He turned it off to see if they got any comments and not 1 person complained about the IBOC being turned off. Imagine that!!!!!!

Yes it was on top of the building. I believe it was the Majestic theater building which now houses the Grand Rapids Civic Theater at 30 N. Division Ave.

Re: WLAV-FM has filed to change its main tower site to WFUR-FM's site!

There are 2 towers at the WNWZ site on Plymouth north of Leonard. The free standing tower which is for the 1410 signal and the taller tower that I believe is owned by Kent County and is used for the sheriff departments dispatch. I believe WBLV 88.9 is also located on this tower. I don't know if that...

Re: Crumpled In House WTRX Survey 1-17-68

Probably some chart geek like me pulled it out of the trash bin. I've got a few of those in my collections. The letters you mention between the This Week and Last week numbers is more than likely some in house code for day parting.

Re: WLAV on air personality Ed "Uncle Buck" Buchanan has died.

I've know Ed for a long long time. Having grown up with him and his brother Mike in the same neighborhood on the Northeast side of Grand Rapids. I read his work history posted on the LAV Facebook/Website and there are a few things missing. I first remember hearing Ed on the air in the fall of 1967 p...

WKNR AM 850 Cleveland

I have noticed the past several nights that WKNR-AM 850 from Cleveland does not appear to be powering down or going to their night time directional signal. Their signal has been booming into West Michigan the past several nights. Usually they aren't audible in West Michigan at all after sunset.

Re: That time Bruce Grant slugged his PM....

I'll try to remember the format info for WOOD-AM and FM as best I can. WOOD-FM was your basic beautiful music station in the 80's until early 1991 when the change was made to Soft A/C as Easy 105.7 FM. WOOD-FM still had a substantial but aging audience when the format change occurred. You'd have tho...

Re: 1250 WJMK launches with 60s/70s oldies format

Putting a translator on 98.5 in that area would be idiotic. Now I know the FM band is loaded these days, but there's gotta be a better option than that.

Re: Muskegon spring ratings - WMRR & WLAW fall off a cliff!

Another guy we should thank for the outlaw is the late John Alan. He masterminded the format with Kevin. John worked at WMUS for many years and at several top 40/Rock stations in the area and had a vast knowledge of Rock and Country music. He along with Kevin were the brains of the operation.

Re: 2018 Detroit Tigers

My daughter had tickets to the game today. She was supposed to meet friends from Detroit at the game. I told her last night to save her gas money, because there was no way they'd be able to play baseball in Detroit today. She heeded my advice and will be going to the make up game in June

Re: 2018 Detroit Tigers

That could be true, but there's supposed to be some type of undisputable visual evidence that the original call was wrong for it to be overturned. I don't think there was enough evidence to change that call. Oh well, the first of probably 90-100 losses for the Tigers this year.

Rich Pastoor

Sad news to pass along. I see where long time Grand Rapids radio host Rich Pastoor has passed away. He worked at several different stations through the years including WFUR, WMAX and WYGR where I believe he was part owner. Rich worked many years on the Polka-Pops show and did the mid day show during...

I guess it really is "HOT FM" now. It's been off the air for the past 2 days after the transmitter tower was struck by lightning.

Re: 640 AM

I am guessing that 640's signal is better along the M-6 corridor than the signal on 810. The signal out of Rockford has been really poor for over a year now.
