Re: Curious about this board's demographics
Yes. Started professionally in ‘85. Left the biz in 2008 to raise a family full time. New career in 2016. Miss the good radio stuff. Don’t miss the drama, arrogance and crap.

SCA Detroit stations
Just curious:
Is any station in Metro Detroit still broadcasting content using SCA subcarriers?
I can’t recall if WDET used to have Radio Talking Book services back in the day.
Don’t have a receiver to check.

Re: Bottle Returns Resuming
The Michigan bottle return law has been the bane of the Michigan (Aka Soft Drink) Bottlers Association, the Michigan Retailers Association and the Michigan Grocers Association, since it was enacted. Not shocked at all that bottle return was suspended. At first, ‘modern medicine’ thought surfaces to ...

Re: Michigan needs to act faster to combat distracted driving "crisis"
The distracted driving laws are already on the books. So, tell me how already over-extended law enforcement departments are supposed to find time to enforce THESE laws to make a difference?

Re: WJR shits the bed again...this time with a 2.2 share!
Yea, I really hate to be a pile-on. This is a really depressing thread. Sadly, there is a lot of truth. WJR (and the AM band) is unsalvageable. I don’t know of one person that listens to AM, let alone radio in general. I’m in my mid-50s. I solely rely upon my smartphone for weather, traffic, local g...

Re: SXM CH 69 Escape
I gave up on SXM Escape. Too many plastic productions, synthesized recordings. Maybe it has changed. May I suggest Music Choice Easy Listening? They have an app, so you can be mobile and still listen. The selections are better quality and more “lush”. I am constantly surprised at the great versions ...

WNZK needs to give Crystal the entire morning show 6-10 time slot, It would be good for Miss Mayo and WNZK, They need to market her show, They could get a small amount of ad revenue. Crystal is a musically talented personality. And Innate you have brought Crystal up before, So we’re on the right tr...

Re: The "personality" of radio stations
IMHO, the personality aspect took a hit when PPM came to Detroit. Seeing listeners tuning out in real time scared the hell outta Management. Reaction? Shut the jocks up. It never recovered. Second place: digital platforms. Took people-power away from making a solid analog station. (Do more with less...

Re: Lone Ranger on WXYZ-AM
I think, but I am not 100% sure. I would have to reference Dick Osgood’s Wxyie Wonderland book.
It ran from 1933-1954 according to a piece that ran on Michigan Radio today.

Re: Turn DOWN your thermostat! Really?!
No, the lawyers aren’t drooling...it’s the accountants. DTE can charge significantly more per kWh providing power to the grid (that goes to “the market”) than directly to their customers in their primary service area. So, if we use less, that “saved power” is put on the grid and sold for more. It’s ...
