Re: Ken Jennings as Jeopardy! Host
I agree with all of you. Jennings is definitely much better now than when he first started, he is more at ease, and he seems to be making the show his own (which is a good thing). A year ago, I preferred Mayim to Ken. I've completely changed sides since then. Mayim's hosting style is a bit too clini...

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV
I definitely remember hearing Petty on both 96.9 and 94.5 in the early or mid 90s. Remember, he had a new (and very successful) album out at the time. "You Wreck Me" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" were singles from that album. 97Rock aired the same TV commercial for months to the tune of "We Will Rock...

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV
I certainly think mid 80s are very doable for Toledo one or more days next week.
Wouldn't completely surprise me if parts of Metro Detroit were to reach 85 degrees at least one day next week.

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV
Indeed, the past couple years, Autumn weather has been pretty nice. November 2020 was absurdly warm in Metro Detroit. Troy and Ann Arbor had two days reach 80 degrees. I want to say another five days were 70+. Last autumn, I was still raking leaves wearing a lightweight jacket in December. I suppose...

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV
Wasn't 1991 the year WLAV briefly tried an Alternative Rock format? Was Abrams involved on that decision? Of course, the main reason WLAV was losing so badly to KLQ was because 94.5 had an enormously popular morning show. WLAV put forth minimal effort in mornings until they stuck the (somewhat contr...

Democrat wins deep red MI State House District #74
The Republican candidate was such a piece of vile garbage, that a Democrat managed to win a special election in a deep red district that includes the likes of Grandville, Walker, and Sparta, among other communities. https://www.woodtv.com/news/kent-county/democrat-carol-glanville-wins-special-electi...

Re: Reduce police forces and bring in the professionals
I agree that police training is inadequate and outmoded. It's hard to fix those problems if funding is slashed. Police brutality and malfeasance would be lessened in quick order if (a) police agencies weren't responsible for reviewing alleged misconduct by other police agencies, and (b) if union con...

Justice Roberts has announced a launch of a probe regarding the leak of the draft opinion.
I agree with Ben Zonia that harsh consequences are appropriate if the leaker was someone on staff.

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV
Lew Dickey, John Dickey and Jan Jefferies ruined many stations owned by Cumulus with terrible programming decisions. Those are all radio guys. Were hedge funds a big part of the problem? You bet they were. They overlent and failed to replace poorly performing executives. I think two or three compani...

I agree it's an ugly building. Painted sheet metal, a few awnings over entrances, and not much else.

Re: I disagree with our weather forecasters on TV
My post of April 20th hinted at possibly 3 or fewer days with high temps of 60 or higher from April 25 through May 5. We won't reach 60 today. As of today, only 3 days since April 25 have hit 60 degrees, and on one of those days, late morning and afternoon temps were in the 50s most areas. We should...

Not holding my breath, but there's a good chance you will be quite happy with next week's weather. Multiple days in the 70s and perhaps even 80s appear likely.

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV
It's been at least a couple years since I last suffered a database crash. Last one was 2019, I believe. His contract reportedly was set to expire in August. He probably was making quite a bit of money. Cumulus is cheap (they air garbage syndicated shows at night on many of their large and major mark...

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV
Chatter on WLAV's Facebook page suggests Tony Gates is still under contract (until August, according to one post) but has been pulled off the air. One repeat post, presumably from Michelle, states: "it was great working with a legend like Tony." Note the usage of past tense. Clearly, his contract is...

Re: MLB on Toledo radio-YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!!
98.3's signal is virtually useless north of the Monroe County line these days.
From its original site, the signal was decent as far north as Wyandotte, Southgate and Taylor. Around Metro Airport, its strength was pretty much on par with WIOT.
