Re: Hudson Tower (Building Under Construction) & Initial FM Collocation Analysis

Is there any way to access these agreements online or otherwise? The agreement used to be in the public file. It was some real vague language that gave the impression that these two friendly companies from different markets deciding that it would be best if both just not worry about directional sho...

Re: Hudson Tower (Building Under Construction) & Initial FM Collocation Analysis

When WUGN and WYCD agreed to mutually move and upgrade, WYCD got 17.5 kW nondirectional. I don't recall WUGN moving at that time. But the agreement (and what Alliance paid for) is that WYCD could be non-DA and neither would object to future CPs. The impetus for the move is that Alliance wanted the ...

in the cases where a station is running 2 (or more) HD channels, are the audio on those stations still 5.1, or are the (one or both) downgraded to 2.0 (stereo)?
Stereo at a ridiculously low bitrate. The audio on some of these subchannels is embarrassingly bad.

Re: Hudson Tower (Building Under Construction) & Initial FM Collocation Analysis

WCSX has the highest HAAT currently at 951 feet at One Radio Plaza. WDVD and WYCD are both at 787 feet HAAT on the One Radio Plaza tower. Do they dIplex into a single antenna now? That facility is from a Section 73.213 short spacing agreement with WHNN and WUGN. WDVD is 20 kW, WYCD is 17.5 kW. Cumu...

Re: Hudson Tower (Building Under Construction) & Initial FM Collocation Analysis

The Hudson Tower, by any other name, but not to be confused with the Hudson Lookout Tower, an antenna farm area some 240 miles North, has been proposed to be 912 feet AGL to the roof near the corner of Woodward and Gratiot. No doubt that there will also be a ~100 foot communications tower or two on...

Re: Local 4 buyout packages

That's why the stations/media companies put those ridiculously long non-compete clauses in their talent contracts. They absolutely hate the free market when it comes to paying their employees. Because talent is a brand that gets an association with the station. These non-completes were the only ins...

Re: Thoughts on the Current State and Potential Future of Detroit Radio

Look at the night pattern of our humble WJR: https://nf8m.com/pattern_maps/current/NIGHTTIME-UNLIMITED/NIGHTTIME-UNLIMITED_760KHz-1.html When you can reach literally half of North America who can listen almost anywhere and for free, with radios already in their houses and cars, that's still an extr...

Re: Bally Sports May Lose TV Rights to MLB Next Week

When Diamond Sports reached a financing agreement with their creditors, it stopped the early termination with the NHL and NBA, so it appears that Diamond was hoping to just return to business as usual and force basic cable customers to carry the load with price increases. Comcast wanted to put them ...

Re: Bally Sports May Lose TV Rights to MLB Next Week

I am not familiar enough with streaming technology to understand what the scalability economics look like, though. Scales nicely when you use a decent content delivery network. Scales horribly when you try to roll your own as no one is going to be able to replicate what Netflix did a decade ago. Fa...

Re: Nexstar's CWNetwork looking for a new detroit home as Scripps pulls affiliation from its stations

I am all for local sports rights on channel 20. I’m assuming it’s not going to a subchannel of 7 or 20. If they don’t come crawling back to 38 or 50, there isn’t much left. A subchannel of 4 would be most likely. I don’t see 31 or a subchannel of 2. Longshot is low power WHNE or not being in the ma...

Re: Bally Sports May Lose TV Rights to MLB Next Week

Bally Sports has become unwatchable for both the Tigers and Red Wings. With their stupid "Pick The Stick" with the Tigers, and "Light The Lamp" with the Red Wings. Add John Keating to that list. The only ones on Bally that are watchable are Chris Osgood and Mickey Redmond. Mickey's a hoot. It reall...

Re: Detroit Stations Launch Start Over, Datacasting To Boost NextGen TV

What a sad tale ATSC 3 has spun. All they needed to do was provide something resembling 4k content, and instead they're off on the same tangents that brought them misery and disappointment with mobile ATSC. “There’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg phenomenon going on,” Michael Newman, director of transfo...

Livonia area we had 5.5”……..

Taylor had nada.
I had a flight out of DTW that day at 1300 local, and the snow line was about a half mile north of the airport. It was a sharp line of snow to the north, nothing to the south that went northeast and very noticable as we took off.
