Re: Old Telephone numbers

74 was PIlgrim. Remember WTRX after 23 was changed to 74, the number was 743-1150. The Talk Line was 743-9453, which one person said was 743-WILD when it was the Studio Request Line at first. I was at WTRX from '85 until '87 or so. That last year, I worked at WEYI and WSAM and an electronic repair ...

Re: LMFAO at Kmart!!!!

My wife and I both do the ShopYourWay rewards programs. We have both lost a LOT of weight over the past few years, and if not for the points we get from the android apps, we'd literally be running around with bunji cords holding our clothes up. We just got two nice fishing kayaks for pretty much not...

Cleared out my inbox on here...

It said it was 100% full, so I deleted a bunch of old messages. If you tried to PM me in the past few days, I probably didn't get it.

Re: Beautiful music stations

I was there in '86 until almost '88. I don't recall seeing the reel machines you mention, but then, I never looked specifically for them. Could have been locked up in the engineering office or something. There *was* an SCA monitor with the meter wiggling around, so I *assume* they were still running...

Re: Windows 10 - Your Thoughts?

Rattling an old chain here, but I haven't had a lot of time this year to catch up on the board, so bear with me. Frankly, I still run XP Pro 32 bit on most of my computers. Why? It's lightweight, fast, stable and everything works how I want it to. I can find and tweak a setting in under a minute. I ...

Why is it that every radio station in any market wants to chase after the same listeners?
Radio is not programming for "listeners" anymore, but advertisers.

Also, on another note, PPM was a stupid idea, implemented poorly.

Re: Will the smooth jazz format ever come back in some form?

Do what I do....listen online. Eventually, it will be like 40s music....there won't be enough warm bodies still alive that want to listen. Smooth Jazz... does that mean there is a "rough" jazz??:) Keep in mind that many more younger demos are totally sick of the "microwave music" of today. Those wi...

Re: Very interesting proposals from NAB

Just think, Roy Henderson and Sima Birach could own even more stations. :rollin Yup. The problem, as *I* see it, is that the owners of most radio stations are generally greedy idiots with no radio blood. There are very few owners left who actually care about the product they are transmitting. The f...

Re: The Death of PBS/NPR?

CMU shouldn't be hurting at all now that they axed TV28. Dipshits. If TV were still analog, it wouldn't be a problem to receive WDCQ or WKAR in Flint, but it ain't gonna happen under DTV coverage. I'm pissed! PBS offers programming for those who have brains. The brainless hate PBS because, well, it'...

I agree. The same with storm chasers. If you are not there for scientific research, you shouldn't be there, period. Certainly not to get that paying shot to fill your pockets or because you are on a "tornado tour". I hoped these yahoos would have learned something when the tornado hit the Weather Ch...

WKCQ did broadcast Muzak in the mid 80's, when I was on WSAM. I think it was one of Mac Sr.'s other ventures.
I was at WSAM in '86-'87 and it was still going as of then.

Re: Crumpled In House WTRX Survey 1-17-68

Right, WIllie. If I recall from my time working there with Don McComb, the music library did go all cart "in the late 60's" and we did have a surplus of Gates Criterion 80 single decks in the engineering closet with date codes of '67 and '68 on them. We used them as backups for when we had to pull a...

Re: Crumpled In House WTRX Survey 1-17-68

The "Jxx" likely was a roundabout way of indicating dayparted songs, as I *think* all TRX jocks still used the last name "Jones" at that point in time. I have a few old library records from TRX with those letters on them. Just a guess, but it makes more sense than anything else. This was likely a li...

Re: Obscure Video Show

I recall Fox66 used to play music vids on overnights until sometime in the mid 80's, when they went to old John Wayne "Lone Star" (Monogram, really) B westerns distributed by Fox/Lorber. The "Lorber" was in reference to Jeff Lorber, who did the music beds dubbed over the films. Jeff is known for "fu...

Flint had SUnset (78-)and CEdar (23-) back in the day. Eventually, 73-, 74- and 76- exchanges came to town, I don't recall them having an exchange name. Then the 251 numbers came in the early 80's, which many Flint radio stations still use today.

Don't really dig the "stationality" including the on-air personalities. I'm 55 now. I wasn't then and something about Teri has always gave me a nails-on-the-chalkboard feeling in the back of my neck. The station in general has never been anything more than a mediocre rock station to me. The Bear wa...
