Re: Another victim of Clownsquare budget cuts...

I'm seeing these posts that suggest WFGR will flip from classic hits to classic rock and might hire Tone "The Fun Guy" Gates as a morning man. I still think he'd be better off on The Big 101.3 FM where the self proclaimed "fun guy" can play "fun hits". Anyway, if WFGR were to flip to classic rock th...

Re: Flint Nielsen numbers for radio

Besides being smaller markets than Grand Rapids and Detroit the problem I have with Flint, The Tri Cities, and Lansing with their ratings is that Mac Donald Broadcasting doesn't participate. Therefore in Flint and The Tri Cities how do we know how WKCQ-FM 98 does as a station playing modern country ...

Re: Another victim of Clownsquare budget cuts...

As a radio professional who's life is terrestrial radio I have to respond to some of the posts regarding Sirius/XM radio. I understand why some people like it because of its variety and no commercials as Birdie King Bobo said in his post. Since 2015 when I bought my car I have had free Sirius/XM rad...

Re: Latest Nielsen Audio numbers

The only thing I really have to say about the December ratings is that Star 105.7 didn't improve that much with the Christmas music. It only jumped to a 4.2% share from a 2.6% share in November. It was number eight overall when the Christmas music usually jumps them up in the top five along with the...

December Ratings

The Nielsen ratings for December came out and the number one station is WNIC with Christmas music. That was quite a jump from about a 4% share in November to a 11.7% share in December. The Ticket with sports was number two with a 7.4% share. I have no comment as to why I think the top two were what ...

One Year Since Real Oldies Went Dark

It's been a year now since WGVU-AM 1480 in Grand Rapids and WGVS-AM 850 went dark. The Oldies offered on the non commercial AM stations was so much broader than commercial stations that previously played oldies. I realize that the commercial broadcasters of today don't want to offer oldies stations ...

Re: Latest Nielsen Audio numbers

I noticed that B-93 beat out WCSG and is number one in the market once again. What is really strange is that their pseudo competition "Blunder Country" jumped to a 2% share while not taking anything away from B-93. While that station is always the bottom feeder for Cumulus in G.R. both I-Heart and T...

Re: November 2022 Ratings

I was really amazed to see that "The Ticket" is number one with a sports format. All sports radio is a bottom feeder format in Grand Rapids which is a much smaller market than Detroit but still a sports station above all commercial FM music formats is strange. Also what was strange is how the succes...

Re: October ratings

I won't go over each rating shares this time but I will say that I-Heart continues to be successful with such popular and professionally run top rated stations B-93, WOOD, and WSNX. The only Town Square station that isn't a bottom feeder is WGRD. The only Cumulus station that is barely above a botto...

October Ratings

I noticed the October radio ratings for the largest markets including Detroit just came out. The Classic Rock station WCSX is number one with a 7.4% share. WCSX does a great job and they always beat WLLZ. WCSX is a wonderful station and it's the best not only in the Detroit area but it is so much be...

Re: Real Oldies is back

Although I applaud my real oldies friends for starting up a non terrestrial "Real Oldies" I would have rather had the Cumulus people back in January after the demise of AM 1480 and AM 850 return 107.3 FM to WODJ oldies with these wonderful legendary radio announcers. Even without those guys an oldie...

Re: September Ratings

Somehow my post got cut to pieces even after I proofread it. What it cut out was that I made the point that only the top five stations (WCSG, B-93, WOOD, WGRD, and WSNX ) did better than a 5% share. The rest of the stations and not just the ones owned by Cumulus are all bottom feeders. No I'm not a ...

September Ratings

The September ratings came out and just like before the non commercial Christian station WCSG was number one once again and the most powerful FM station B-93 with the modern country hits was number two. I-Heart had both WOOD and WSNX in the top five with WOOD at number three and WSNX at number five....

Does anyone have a polka show in Detroit?

Last weekend was the annual Pulaski Days celebration in Grand Rapids and that got me to thinking does anybody do polkas at all in the Detroit market? I know at one time there were ethnic stations that played polkas and an AM Catholic religious station also played polkas but does polka radio still ex...

Re: September Nielsen Monthly

I noticed that WOMC was number one once again with Classic Hits. I think WOMC needs competition and I think Detroit could use a classic hits that mixes in 60's hits along with the 70's and 80's hits heard on WOMC. Perhaps Cumulus could flip WDRQ to this kind of classic hits station or maybe I-Heart ...
