Re: Let's Play Pretend.....

I had always wondered why Toledo never had a full power AM, meaning like 10k watt or something like that. For decades (From General Order 40 to, I believe, the late eighties), 5,000 watts was the set limit on all regional channels. If the FCC actually resets the protected contours from .5mV/m, to ...

Re: AMP 98.7 flipping!

If 98.7 went Christmas after WNIC did, nobody would know that 98.7 did, because all the Xmas listerners would all be listening to WNIC.

Furthermore, by being first, 98.7 may bring down the rating of 100.3

Re: AMP 98.7 flipping!

Underperforming station owned by Entercom.

My prediction, sadly, is WWJ Newsradio 98.7.
A waste of electricity and spectrum, though it is the only way around the problem that white men between 30 and 50 refuse to listen to AM stations because some AMs played music by nonwhites in the past.

Re: Let's Play Pretend.....

1520 has a booming signal in Erie, MI, but that signal hides a dirty secret - it has a strong, narrow lobe and receives a lot of interference at night (evident at Alexis and Secor). To its credit, it sounds good and had a transmitter plant built in this century. The travesty is its FM translator. It ...

Re: another WPON update

The Regional mex is WKAM in Goshen, IN. They often have a good signal into SE Michigan before sunset.
This summer, a few months ago, the towers for WPON/WCXI were standing (I mentioned it on the BCB DX logger). I hope the landlord didn't have a change of heart and order them back down.

Re: another WPON update

Yeah, Just realized that I had been looking at WMBD's day pattern, instead of the night. Interesting that MBD had a deep null right at FNT, even though MBD was there some twenty years before FNT. Guess WMBD did an upgrade after WFNT was already in place. MBD isn't the only blaster regional in Peoria ...

Re: another WPON update

I am curious as to WFNT's NIF is. It doesn't have any strong signals beamed directly at it, but WMBD is a 5kW "senior regional" without any true nulls (and is likely FNT's major source of nighttime QRM). The only station on 1470 with a CP is WTTR in Maryland, which has a nighttime study in its app ...

Re: another WPON update

I'm wondering if they may be able to increase their nighttime operation power further. Their nighttime pattern will be three towers, nearly all of it beamed north. that 580w night figure may be their limit to WBRN in Big Rapids. However, WBRN, long ago, took out a CP to remove two of their three ...
