Re: CW Network Coming To 32.2

FCC regs don't require stations to broadcast in HD. But as more and more people are purchasing HDTVs (and all new TVs on the market has some sort of HDTV compatibility), channels that still broadcast in standard definition will be left in the dust, especially those affiliated with a major network.

Re: ABC 12 - Wind Chill Advisory banner

Warning of a wind chill advisory nonstop -- when the temperatures are already sub zero -- is overkill in my book. Makes as much sense as announcing a "freeze warning" in the same matter. Brutal winters are usually a given in Michigan -- it is ridiculous to warn of the obvious instead of the extraord...

Meanwhile, it appears that Fox 32 is now known as "Local 32". Hmmmm..... http://www.9and10news.com/fox-32-wfqx/ I thought the "Local" branding was something Graham Holdings did? Apparently, so are a few stations not associated with Graham. For example, Nexstar's WFFF in Burlington, VT: https://en.w...

Re: CBC "The National"

This reminds me a bit of ... what ABC did in the 1980s with Frank Reynolds, Max Robinson and Jennings. ABC's tag team of Reynolds (from New York or Washington), Robinson (from Chicago) and Jennings (from London) began in 1978, when its evening newscast was revamped into "World News Tonight". It wen...

Re: Channel changes in Detroit and Sarnia

Yes, some stations in the border areas of the Canada and Mexico will be moving as well. CKNX-TV 8 in Wingham will be shutting down when the Toronto stations have to move. Bell announced the closedown of CKNX-TV last year, though for economic instead of technical reasons: http://blog.fagstein.com/20...

Re: 90.5 CJAH testing

CJAH is *extremely* directional to protect WKAR: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/patg?id=CJAH-FM&s=F I don't think it even reaches Livonia. It's highly directional to the southeast to cover Windsor and Leamington. It's southeastern pattern is designed not only to protect WKAR, but two other stati...

Re: Sarnia/Port Huron

Why CKCO-3 didn't convert from analog to digital yet? Apparently with most area viewers watching on cable and the Sarnia area being in a region not required for digital conversion, Bell is not in any hurry to flip CKCO-3 to digital. Last year, Bell filed a request with the CRTC to close 40 transmit...

Detroit TV Schedule from July 7 1981 WKBD 50 11:00 Prisoner Cell Block H (A show ripped off by Orange Is The New Black.) ...and later remade starting in 2013 as "Wentworth", which I believe is on Netflix. All 692 episodes of Prisoner (many of them not seen in the US after 1981, when it was pulled) ...

Re: Why must you waste our time?

I grew up in the 1960's and watched Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley, David Brinkly, etc. These people were journalists. What I see today, is a bunch of clueless Teleprompter Readers, reading scripted garbage handed down from a Biased Corporate or a Biased local news director. It is laughable to say t...

Re: YouTube TV now available in the Motor City!

What's available? It's ike an ultra-skinny cable package with the following local stations: WJBK (FOX 2) WDIV (Local 4) WXYZ (Channel 7) WKBD (CW 50) WWJ (CBS 62) Telemundo (presumably from WNJU 47 New York City) I suppose it's mandatory to have at least one Spanish channel. Considering that there'...

Re: YouTube TV now available in the Motor City!

Due to broadcast rights, subscribers won't be able to view it if they travel outside of the USA and sign in... Of course, if you use a VPN service pointed to a US IP, I would think you can use it almost anywhere in the world. ...and it's not available to Canadians, either... no word on if that will...

I just noticed in that chart that I shared that WKBD Detroit was an ABC affiliate back then. I didn't know that. (The preceding was sarcasm.)

Re: Old cable lineups

I came across a conversion chart for Sault Ste-Marie and Elliot Lake, Ontario from a 1989 North Shore Edition of TV Guide. Interestingly, WNEM and WJRT was carried in the Canadian Soo and not WTOM (a so-called "CBS" affiliate) or WGTQ: http://www.vintagetvguide.ca/tv-guide-channels-listed.php?Editio...

Re: So long, Esquire network!!!

One has to wonder if we have too many cable channels that show the same stuff as the others -- from Esquire TV's Wikipedia article : On October 1, 2016, Dish Network removed the channel from the lineup. As with their earlier dropping of Cloo, the provider justified it by stating that Esquire's sched...

Peter did a Facebook live question and answer on Monday. One of the questions was who did you listen to when getting started? What can be done about this.... if anything ? Go complain to Crawford directly and tell them to "knock off their shenanigans"?
Not Crawford's problem this time: WNUC is owned by a local not-for-profit, the North End Woodward Community Coalition:

My guess is the hotel cable picked up the local cable channels, then rearranged the order to their taste.

Re: Network programming preemptions by individual stations

Thanks. I knew WNWO would air it but wondered if WDIV or NBC worked out a deal to have an alternate local station broadcast those NBC shows that WDIV doesn't want. Apparently not. Apparently, WDIV refuses to let others show pre-empted programs or move them to their subs, as they didn't want others ...
