Re: Shutdown: Same Tune - Different Lyrics

Its simply about votes.

The left casts the impression that they are all about the little guy and all that, and that somehow votes for the left will come out of it all.

Re: Pay Movie Channels back in the day

The boxes we had were(I think) Jerrold 400 and 450's. I was always told there were like chips or something like that inside them, to descramble the channels. A system I knew of had these decoders, and there was an IC chip that one could rock out of its socket from one end, leaving the first 2 or 4 ...

Re: CNN uses Profanity

Hmmm.....when CNN's Poster-Child president used the shi* term in an interview with Rolling Stone regarding Mitt Romney, they didn't leave it up on the Chryron for hours.

It all depends who says it, and the political slant of the reporting media. :blink

Re: Sensationalization of the weather

Mentioned before elsewhere here by me, but constant reference to wind chill. It's not an absolute, and if you dress for it it does not matter (i.e. I snowmobile, and ride 40 miles an hour at 5 degrees F ambient, and end up a little warm), but it SURE does make good scary headlines.

Re: New Samsung Phones Will Have An Active FM Radio Chip

Yeah, but the Galaxy 5 is the last Samsung Galaxy with both a removable battery and removable memory so you can avoid the locked-up meltdowns and reboots. Unfortunately, Verizon has a neutered version of it, while the other vendors didn't drop it. I wouldn't mind having the feature, but I use old t...

Re: Govermnent regs help big business...

Hmmm....could be....but I'm more inclined to think it is stupid politicians trying to do the "right" thing (i.e. tell us all what is bad for us) and then getting tripped up in execution. Bad ideas get piled on top of more bad ideas. Frankly, I couldn't care less if people too stupid to stop smoking ...

Re: Al Gore

I have been seeing individual home windmills pop up here and there in rural areas... the biggest concentration of home solar I can remember seeing was in Ann Arbor. I assume with the home setups if you run out of your own juice for whatever reason then it kicks you onto the grid? Generally, it's a ...

Good info...thanks....this is what LPFM is all about.....not some scam religious operation warehousing frequencies all over a region and simulcasting.

Re: Ginger Zee Tell All!

Dear Plate: Knowing and understanding the context for what is written about public figures and the industry in which one makes a living is essential to being well informed, which is the point of journalism. This is not some frivolous hobby. I suggest you reorder your priorities in life. Go-oo-lly, ...

Re: Al Gore

Interestingly, in recent years Hawaii did away with backfeeding power into the grid. It was affordable enough, and sunlight plentiful enough that it became a free-for-all without regulation, and not only impossible to manage by the utility, but it was overloading local sections of the infrastructure...

Re: Al Gore

why is it that we cannot be energy independent using wind and solar power? Hi, Good question....one I've wondered about too. Since we have the (rare for the Buzzboard) beginnings of a polite interaction on a political/technical issue, let me throw some numbers about. I'm far from an expert on this....

When will idiots everywhere accept the fact that climate change is a constant and ongoing thing......it has been since the beginning of time on Earth and will continue to do so long after we are gone. There have been at least five major events that we know of, and each drastically redistributed plan...

Re: A decent Indoor TV antenna

Nothing new about off air reception from when you may have lived in a neighborhood with a forest of TV antennas on every roof. Many of you don't remember pre-cable, tho. Actually (another millennial opening word...shame on me), it's worse. Given the demise of low band and low VHF, you generally need...

Wow.....it is LITERALLY amazing that people even give things like this a second look. I don't have enough time in the day to get the things I need to do finished, let alone buy and read a gossip book. God bless the people who have their affairs enough in order that they have the time to do so and di...

It's where this sort of radio entertainment is going; they have a loyal following and I'm glad to see they are making the most of it. I have friends that love(d) the show, and one can tell by the uptick in the usual Buzzboard nastiness within this thread that some are passionate about it. That said,...

Re: ABC 12 - Wind Chill Advisory banner

Wind chill factors are a concern, but TV weather in the recent years have taken it well over the top as a scare tactic to gain / keep audience. It's a factor when it gets sub-zero....not so much otherwise other than a "sell" factor. What irritates me the most is when the shift in and out of wind chi...

I had the same reaction, but these guys are all about flash and dazzle advertising....just because they advertise on TV and have a tagline and catchy phone number, they are no better / worse inherently than any other attorney.
